Linux's Role in SBAY.ORG
What is SBAY.ORG?

Next[Next]
SBAY.ORG is a group of communications hobbyists
This was started by a group of mostly BBS sysops in 1993 with a little Internet expertise. Lots of different expertise was added as the group evolved.
SBAY.ORG is an online community
The organization depends on cooperation from other community members. Internet sites forward mail to UUCP hubs which pass it on to "leaf nodes". Along the lines of the original ideals of UseNet, "you can pay back the network by helping others connect."
SBAY.ORG is a Subdomain Registry
Subdomains of sbay.org are free, with the catch that you must provide your own nameserver(s) and follow common netiquette, not causing inconveniences to the other volunteers.
SBAY.ORG is a UUCP Registry
UUCP host names inside sbay.org are available for free and come with automatic Internet MX records, even if your immediate UUCP neighbors are not directly on the Internet. If anyone needs UUCP connectivity, we ask around and find someone local to you with spare capacity.
SBAY.ORG is NOT an ISP
Internet bandwidth is not free. If you want to be directly Net-connected, you must obtain and pay for your own connection. The network is only capable of what its volunteers are willing to provide for free.
