Linux's Role in SBAY.ORG
Netiquette and Site Responsibilities

Next[Next]
In November 1994, a new site joined and started spamming UseNet. He refused to cooperate with handling all the complaints coming to postmaster@sbay.org. He was promptly expelled.

We use the "Carry Your Own Weight" principle

Rule #1: Avoid causing inconveniences to other volunteers
Reason: SBAY.ORG needs to be sustainable for the long term

You have to be able to run your own site

Don't pester other sites with too many questions
But if you make new friends, you'll know how much you can get away with

Rule #2: If an inconvenience occurs out of your control, fix it
Reason: everyone makes mistakes, sometimes users mess things up too

After the November 1994 spamming incident, we agreed on a set of policies.
